Excerpt:

The light was too bright and coming from the wrong direction. Matty cracked open one reluctant, grainy eye and tried to focus despite the stabbing pain. It was a room he recognized, at least.

I'm at Duane's.

The bedroom door opened. “Hi there, thought you might need this. You always have a hangover the next morning,” his best friend Duane teased as he held out a glass of water. Matty took it and the two ibuprofen Duane proffered from his other hand.

“Ugh.” Matty swallowed the two pills down and drained the water from the glass. It helped rehydrate his parched mouth and throat. He hoped he kept it down, his stomach was mildly roiling.

“You grab a quick shower, okay, and I'll make you some toast.”

“Sure, okay,” Matty said as he reached one hand up to scratch at his chest idly. He frowned slightly. Was that dried semen on his chest? He looked up sharply at Duane, a sudden suspicion forming. Duane was standing there smiling, a look of utter happiness on his face.

“Do you think you could handle some juice with your toast? Or do you just want some coffee?”

“Yeah, some juice would be good.”

Duane nodded and turned to walk out the door. Was he walking with a slight hitch to his stride? Matty looked down at the coverlet, suddenly very aware that he was nude under it and that his groin area also itched slightly. He lifted the covers and groaned. More dried come met his gaze. He threw off the covers and made a dash to the bathroom. He suddenly felt very sick and convulsively swallowed as he turned on the shower, eager to wash away the evidence. No amount of soap could rinse away the previous night's events. He'd just have to get out and face the music. Hopefully, he could do it without crushing an obviously over the moon Duane. He toweled off and tying the towel around his waist, exited the bathroom in search of his clothes. A wolf whistle greeted him.

“Hey, look at you, sexy! Your clothes are on the chair in the bedroom. I left out a brand new pair of undies for you.”

“Thanks,” he mumbled. Dressing quickly, he walked to the kitchen and sat at the breakfast bar. “Look good,” he said, biting into his piece of toast.

Duane beamed. “I was so scared it was going to be awkward this morning.”

Matty put his toast down, picked up his coffee and took a swig of the scalding liquid. Setting the cup down, he replied, “About that.”

Duane narrowed his eyes. “You have that look on your face, Matty. I've known you since we were in junior high and it's the one that says, 'I don't wanna but I gotta'. You going to tell me last night was a mistake?” Duane's voice went up an octave as he spoke.

“Duane, I don't even remember last night. From what I saw this morning, we did something, yeah? But I don't remember any of it and it must have just been us being two horny guys. I love you, man, you know that, but just not like that. We're besties-”

“Stop there.” Duane raised his hand in a stop gesture as he spoke. “I know what you're going to say. I want you to get out, just get out! Just go! You do not get to fuck me and then tell me it's just fooling around. I've loved you for years and told you so last night. You said you loved me back, you bastard. I'd never have given you my ass otherwise! So, just...get...out...” Duane's voice ground the last sentence out.

Matty knew there'd be no arguing with Duane while he was this upset. Best to just go and hope to be able to talk sensibly once he's cooled down. I hope our friendship can recover. Matty stood up. “Okay, I'll go. I'm sorry, and I hope we can talk about this later.” As the front door closed behind him, he heard the sound of crockery smashing. He winced. I really am sorry.

About Accused
Matthias Reynolds loves his life. He's starting to make it as a graphic artist at last and has a job he really likes at a local café that pays the bills. When a night out clubbing leads to an awkward morning after, he's embarrassed and more than ready to forget all about it. When Talani Enforcers show up at the café, he doesn't know what to make of it all as he's led away in restraints.

Standing accused of crimes he struggles to understand, he finds he has an unexpected champion: the Talani warrior and war hero J'nah Quislin. J'nah knows that Matty is his. All J'nah has to do is keep Matty safe from those who engineered Matty's charges and sentencing. That, and get Matty to accept that universe always intended them to be together as one. All it requires is for Matty to return J'nah's devotion and offer his willing submission. Can Matty do it, with all that it will mean for his future?
